报告题目:Design and characterization of metamaterial surfaces and antennas for wireless applications

报告人简介:Sadiq Ullah is Associate Professor in Telecommunication Engineering Department, University of Engineering & Technology, Mardan (UETM), Pakistan. He is the Director of Postgraduate Studies at UETM and Head of the Antennas & Electrometric Research Group. Sadiq Ullah received B.Sc. Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan. He achieved his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, Pakistan. In 2007, he joined the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, at Loughborough University, U.K., and was awarded Ph.D. for his research in the field of design and measurement of metamaterial based antennas in 2010. He worked as an Assistant Manager (Electronics) in a public sector R and D organization in Islamabad, where his main responsibilities were hardware, software co-design, designing and testing of high precession electronics, test equipment. His research mainly focuses on design and measurement of low-profile antennas on electromagnetic Bandgap structures, metasurfaces, multiband antennas, wearable antennas, mmW/THz antennas and 5G antennas. He has been worked as a Research Associate at Loughborough University, where he researched on the propagation effects of rain, snow, ice, fog and forest in millimeter wave band. He has published his research in international conferences and Sci-Indexed journals.

报告内容简介:The recent trend in modern antenna design is to attain wider bandwidth, multi-frequency & polarization response, high gain, better efficiency, compact size, beam-steering, band-notching, controlled specific absorption rate (SAR), etc. These performance metrics can be realized if Metamaterial surfaces are integrated with the antenna design. Metamaterials are composed of periodic sub wavelength metal/dielectric structures, exhibiting properties that are not found in nature. Thefirst partof the presentation is focused on metamaterials in general, i.e., classification & application, design & characterization. The impact of the metamaterial surfaces on the polarization diversity and SAR of wired and planar (patch) antennas are the main theme of this part. The design and realization of angle insensitive and broadband metasurfaces for polarization dependent applications is another interesting area of electromagnetic (EM) research. Some recently designed metasurfaces possessing the ability of cross/multi polarization conversion for various angles of incidence in a wider spectrum is presented. Thesecond partwill cover design and analysis of selected range of antennas for various wireless applications, i.e. WLAN, WiMAX, radar, ITU, GPS and mobile communication (3G LTE, 5G). Specific results from the recent work of Dr. S. Ullah’s research group on antennas & metamaterials will be included in this talk.
